Silent Planet, Currents, Above Below, Reliqa - 23rd October 2022 - Crowbar, Sydney
If you’ve never seen Reliqa live before, you’re missing out. Last night they were first up to take the Crowbar Sydney stage in support of US metalcore band Silent Planet as they embarked on their first ever headline Aus tour. Even though Reliqa’s set only ran for around 25 minutes, they owned the stage every second they were there, putting on a remarkable performance like always. The band always bring this huge energy with them and absolutely wiped the venue with their prog-metal soundscape fully blasting out of the monitors, shaking the entire room with the vibrant bass and heavy chugs on the guitar. Crowbar was flooded with many as the band played through a great set of well loved tracks.
Above, Below had the crowd enthralled straight away when they jumped onto the stage, strumming the guitar louder than ever while the underlying bass vibrated the floors and as Jacob Wilkes (vocalist) yelled into the mic, the crowd started headbanging vigorously, hands in the air, squashed up against the barrier with not a care in the world. During the bands set, a mini circle pit formed as a heap of excited fans ran around pushing each other to the hard and heavy drum beats thundering and punching out. They brought powerful energy and expelled it out onto the ever-growing sea of people, getting everyone hyped and having a great time.
At this point, the atmosphere and excitement were high to the point you thought it couldn’t grow anymore but as soon as Currents took the stage, this is where it absolutely started to get mental. Everyone in the room who wasn’t already headbanging their heart out started jumping around so hard that it felt like the whole room could explode with the amount of energy that quickly filled up. From the growls, to the fast paced kicks and cymbal smashing, the soundscape that came from the band was impressive to say the least. Each member moved around the stage forcefully, with confidence as they played a powerhouse of tunes that got heavier and heavier as they went on and it was so rad to see these guys absolutely kick ass on stage as the low red lights beamed down onto them, and the crowd started to sing the lyrics louder than them.
Silent Planet are fierce.
The heat rose to the ceiling from all the sweaty bodies nearly on top of each other as they screamed out to the band in pure chaos and by the second track person after person came toppling over the barrier, punching the air, yelling out the lyrics at the top of their lungs, and just overall having the time of their lives crowd surfing to the dense, metalcore tracks. The guitarist and bassist both went as hard as each other and whipped around as the stage lights flickered between orange and complete darkness while vocalist Garrett Russell belted out deep screams into the microphone that smashed out into the full room, making everyone swing hard to the hardcore rhythm.
Metalcore shows are a fun and mental time, and Silent Planet brought enough gasoline to keep that insane fire of energy going all night as they had all their fans having one of the best Sunday nights in a long time.
