MINI CHAT WITH RAPPER RANDY THRILL$
Hailing from Brisbane, rapper Randy Thrill$ has no problem creating some of the best tunes with the most infectious beats, and captivating lyrics in the scene at the moment. Recently releasing his first track of the year ‘Walked Away’, it just showcases the talent and creative ability that the artist has to offer. We got the chance to ask Randy some questions about his music journey, life, and his single - check it out below.
First up, how did you first get into music? What was the moment you realised you wanted to get serious with it and create your own sound.
I started making music in 2016 with my best mate at the time. That was our last year of higher school. I’ve always been a music fanatic since I was young. Grew up in a family where we celebrated everything, and music was the main source of enjoyment for those celebrations. In 2016 it was just like a “why not” thing. Let me see how my music can make people feel.
When it comes to writing your tracks, where do you take the inspiration from?
It could be about anything.. There’s never a time I’ve gone in the studio and said I want to talk about this or that. I am very critical of the instrumental that I’m working with. I feel like it takes the lead and steers me with what topic a track should be about. I usually take production inspirations, and mixes from other tracks I think are really creative.
‘Walked Away’ is your latest single, what was the creative process like for it?
My creative process for this single was very natural. I loved the beat soo much. The first few seconds the chorus came to me straight away. It gave me an old school yet very modern vibe. Sorta like Craig David ‘Walking Away’. My main focus with my producer were the creative mixing elements. I really wanted it to be noticed and captured for the audience. Which we achieved in a satisfying manner.
Tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind the track and how you got the high energy soundscape infused with your punk-rock style
As mentioned before, it was the open opportunity the instrumental provided in terms of a RNB/punk-rock style. Additionally my very special Punk ability to write the entire song being very strict on keeping it neat and captivating. Also with the brilliant assistance of my homie S-jee coming through with awesome vocals on the last verse and chorus.
What is one of your favourite tracks you’ve ever written and why?
Every single project or single I’ve ever dropped is a massive milestone for me. I put a lot of effort in every track I write and hope it provides a certain emotion to people when they listen. This is something I’ll also continue to stick to throughout my career. So no sorry I don’t have a “favourite track”
What has been the biggest highlight of your music journey so far?
The biggest highlight so far are my fans, friends and family seeing my progression in my writing skills, songs, videos and photos. It’s all a package to me. The fact they notice these components gives me confidence to keep wanting to provide greater. Also the fact that my music video ROK N ROLL was on MTV for about 6 months. That was amazing being on TV for that long. I had friends from all around the country sending me videos of them watching me off their TV’s.
What’s next for you this year?
The best yet. New music, new video coming very soon. My team and I are going to be pushing more boundaries.
