MINI CHIT CHAT WITH NEW ARTIST THOM ON DEBUT EP ‘IN AN ERA’

Fresh on the local scene with a unique sound, Sydney artist THOM has a lot of creative abilities and talent to show the world and she is just getting started. Her debut EP “In An Era” can best be described as chaotic neutral, which is especially defined in her track “GIVE GIVE GIVE (Take Take Take)”.
Check out the mini Q&A with the artist below and don’t forget to give the EP a listen because THOM is a true creative we will be keeping an eye on.

First can you tell us a little about yourself, how you got into music, any pets or hobbies? etc.

My name is Amelia Thompson, artist name THOM. I got into music super young. My dad used to sit me on his lap as a kid and play music videos for me on our old windows computer and I remember since then deciding it was what I was going to do. I also enjoy walking long distances at the moment, I would say that’s my hobby.

What does a normal day in your life look like?

I usually love getting up before the sun to go for a walk and get a coffee, doing my best to romanticise my existence. Go to work on weekdays and on weekends I try and keep super social, seeing friends, going to gigs, playing music.

In general, what does music mean to you?

I believe it’s such a perfect emotional outlet and communication source. I have never been a good and concise talker but have always found what I need to say or feel in music.

You’ve crashed onto the scene with your new EP, tell us what the creative process was like and where did your ideas come from?

My producer Bobby and I worked on this Ep together. It is always a chaotic process, getting two hours in the studio and just pumping out whatever the vibe is and creating around that. My ideas and lyrics come from my life, things I’m experiencing or feeling.

What is your favourite track on the EP, and why?

My favourite track is ‘Oh he’s Bad’. This track has developed so much from the first session and has become such a fun track. It’s all about that satire of dating today and the concept of ‘situationships’ which I find very amusing.

Are there currently any local artists that you’re really loving at the moment?

I am really loving Awa Mbaye, before the king and Loretta !!

As we are coming into the second half of the year, what are you most looking forward to?

I’m really looking forward to taking my music into a new space and vibe. I am also really keen to play live more and start gigging.
