Top 10 Tracks Of 2022
2022 was one hell of a year to say the least, between slowly getting back to some kind of normal, and the year itself just flying by so quickly, our ears were blessed with a huge array of new local tunes that heavily poured in from well known locals, bigger artists, and upcoming new talent. Since kicking off Electric Dreams Media mid year, we have had the absolute pleasure of listening and reviewing a plethora of music - so below, we have compiled a list of our top 10 tracks of the year with some honourable mentions (because this was a hard list to make). So, in no particular order, please enjoy the list, and check out all bands mentioned.
Thanks for the tunes and heres to 2023!
How could this track not be added to the list? What’s not to absolutey LOVE about it - it’s cute, it’s catchy, it’s a true bop that needs to be listened to more. Damaged Good Club are an incredibly underrated band from Melbourne who make some of the sickest tunes that I fell in love with from first listen.
2. BoysnLove - “Honeymoon Diver”
If you didn’t know, this track by locals Boysnlove was my top track on Spotify wrapped this year - I just couldn’t get enough. Since first hearing this brilliant band pre-covid, they have held a special place in my heart and “Honeymoon Diver” showcases vocalist Annie Rose Collis’ vocals and song writing skills on this gut-wrenching indie track that was written around a true story of the death of Tina Watson.
3. Jessie’s Overalls - “Growing Up”
The cutest little duo to ever exist is Jessie’s Overalls, a young set of friends from Adelaide who caught my attention on Instagram (the power of social media) with this fantastic little track called “Growing Up” which features relatable lyrics and has an infectious hook that I’m addicted to.
4. Baby Mullet - “Tea”
I’m an absolute sucker for punk rock so when Baby Mullet was spotted, all eyes were on them. Releasing an absolute catalogue of amazing music this year including debut EP “My First Sex Tape”, “Tea” was the tune that really hooked into me, and was on repeat so often that it also ended up on my Spotify wrapped. It’s just such a terrific track by really great band that you really shouldn’t sleep on.
5. Agnes Blue - “Pie, Coke, Ciggie”
As we make our way half way through the list, Agnes Blue approached me on Instagram asking if I would listen to their then new released track and instantly I knew it would be a fav of mine. Featuring a large amount of rock influences, and great lyrics it was one I couldn’t glaze over. Coming from Melbourne, Agnes Blue truly are a great band that have great talent and that’s why they’ve made it onto this list. And if there’s anything to be learnt here, it’s that shoot your shot - never be afraid to share your music because you never know, you could just end up on a top ten list.
6. IAMMERAKI - “Untitled”
This one surprised me a lot. The first time I heard it, I was blown away with just the amount of talent that the artist had crammed into this track, and i knew right then and there that this was going on this this list before I even planned to write it! It was shocking to see that not many people had heard of the artist before let alone listened to the track. It was then my goal to tell as many people as I could about it - and that’s what I’m also doing now. I can’t recommend this track enough - if you’re into alt-rock then you’ll definitely dig it.
7. Bloodyarvo - “Feel My Heart Sleeps”
Bloodyarvo are a relatively new Sydney band with a lot to offer. “Feel My Heart Sleeps” was their debut track and my God was it addictive. I wanna say that I had this track on repeat for 10 hours one day (not even exaggerating) it’s just so damn catchy. Just counting down till this band feed me more music cause I’m hungry for more.
8. Kai Cult - “Raver”
How fucking cool is Kai Cult?! Like seriously, his music, aesthetic, and soundscape are just so good and I’m living for it. “Raver” was released and as I was scanning my emails, the title grabbed my attention, I gave it a quick listen and was hooked. It’s got a good kick to it, and is punchy as hell, making you really want to rave. Such a great artist who you should always keep an eye on.
9. SUBROSA - “Galaxy”
Are you a sucker for shoegaze? Well you’re in luck because SUBROSA add the perfect amount to their debut track “Galaxy” that create this amazing sound that I’m obsessed with, and you will be too! As soon as this song played, it was added to this list because of the soundscape, and vocals that I just fell in love with. Such a strong start for this band and I hope to see them go far.
10. Second Idol - “Dear X”
Coming in hot - Second Idol are a fantastic alternative band brewing with talent. Every release is always more than fantastic. These guys have been a favourite of mine since seeing them perform live a few years ago with a sound that is transformative. “Dear X” is a track that will forever remain on high on my list of all time fav local tracks with it’s well-written lyrics and ability to have you in a trance - it’s amazing.
