Michael Day Shares Top 5 Folk Acts In Australia After Releasing Single “Psych Or The Priest”
Late September saw alt-folk artist Michael Day release emotive track “Psych or the Priest” which feeds on the feeling of anxiety at it’s peak within the lyrics which are swept across a pleasant soundscape that is enjoyable and sweet, ultimately creating a contrast with the themes of hopelessness and the soft instrumentals.
Michael recently shared with us his top 5 Folk artists in Australia and why he chose them. You can find out his choices below, and don’t forget to check out the new track “Psych or the Priest”.
1. Jacob Wylde
Jacob Wylde is one of my favourite folk artists in Australia. His music is raw and full of introspection. There is always something to chew on. He has a way of playing guitar that makes it sing and it’s something I really admire about him.
2. The Stamps
The Stamps are a relatively new band to the scene in Perth. They have released 1 single and a live EP. Fairbridge is a banger! Their harmonies are beautiful. Think Dulcie but if they were a folk act.
3. Lucas Jones
Lucas Jones (front man of ‘These Winters Nights’) is a lovely songwriter. ‘Better than Dead’ gives me Nova Amor vibes. His falsetto is beautifully delicate, supported by a hauntingly strummed acoustic guitar. Everything I have heard from Lucas inspires me and thus He is in my top 5 folk acts in Australia.
4. Kat Wilson
Kat Wilson is a mixture of Pop, Blues and Folk. She is a killa guitarist! Her music is filled with singable melodies, catchy riffs and groovy rhythms. Her live shows are tight and display her guitar chops. She is an underrated artist in my opinion.
5. Angus and Julia Stone
One of my favourtie bands, for one of the longest times I can remember, has been Angus and Julia Stone. Their music is some of my favourite ever. I love their compositions, instrumentation, vibes and just everything. If you haven’t heard of them, you have been living under a rock, which isn’t a bad thing but now you need to go and discover Angus and Julia Stone, what a joy.
