Steel Panther & Airbourne - 21st October 2022 - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
The rock gods have answered our prayers and, well, sent us themselves in the form of Steel Panther - one of the best rock bands from the US, and loved by many. Friday the 21st of October 22 (after many reschedules) was the night that the band would hit the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney bringing along rock and roll band Airbourne for the ride. The atmosphere was powerful in the venue from the get go and only became stronger as the rock and roll began to play and the beers started flowing, and a sea of leather and denim flooded the venue.
Airbourne know how to get a crowd pumped up and they did just that. As the band ran out on stage and jumped making them literally airbourne, they slammed down hard on the strings of their guitars bringing a powerhouse sound erupt through the speakers and out onto the crowd making them scream louder than ever. They played through their whole set with force as they went through each of their tracks and during the third song, the vocalist/guitarist Joel O’Keeffe got into the crowd and surfed his way around everyone, playing his guitar as he went before coming back onto stage and spraying everyone with beer - it was killer to see, and the crowd absolutely ate it up and loved every second of it. The Joel was in full party mode encouraging fans to get in the rock and roll spirit, comanding them to get on shoulders, crowd surf, light a joint, or do a line of coke in the bathroom - and just like that people got onto their friends shoulders and put their fists into the air as he later later threw beers out to those fans- it was great. A truly stellar start to the night. Pure rock and roll adrenaline was pumping.
The moment Steel Panther walked out stage the venue exploded with smoke and sparks as they flew into the air while the crowd roared in excitement and went absolutely mental. Straight away, the band were getting flashed left, right, and centre while huge smiles slipped onto their faces they began hammering into the first song of the night, moving around the stage with huge energy, swinging their instruments around, and making eye contact/engaging with as many fans as they could. Entertaining banter was shared between the band during the show, and in between songs which was heavily amusing to say the least and as each member owned the stage, they quickly filled the room with fun rock and roll vibes. It easily became one of the most engrosing shows that we’ve seen all year - no wonder Steel Panther have so many fans that go crazy for them. That’s rock and roll for you.
If you don’t enjoy their music (which you’re crazy not to), you can’t deny that the live show they put on is entertaining as fuck and such a pleasure to watch.
