Mudhoney - 20th April 2023 - The Factory Theatre, Sydney
Australia sure did get their fix of 90s grunge this week with Seattle's Mudhoney hitting our shores and making their way around the country providing that good fuzzy distorted sound, and huge nostalgic energy. The band took to Sydney at the Factory Theatre last night and made everyone’s with a great set filled with the best tracks - frontman Mark Arm sure knows how to compile a loved setlist. Leading that significant underground 90’s grunge sound to the Factory last night, Mudhoney had no issues filling up the venue with many excited fans, ready to get their rock on during a school night. Supporting were Wollongong duo Chimers and Sydney rockers the Holy Soul - who both blew the audience away by using their crunchy tones and strong drum beats that soared out into the audience and had people moving around.

Chimers proved that you don’t need many instruments to produce great tracks that are filled with great riffs, and rhythm. Like if Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. had a baby it would be this duo for sure. From the first song they played you could just tell you were in for a good ride, and it was so good that you didn’t want it to stop.
I could listen to these guys forever.
A whole lot of hefty bass and cool riffage is what makes up The Holy Soul. Drifting through the epic drums and vocals, the band's sound will have you hooked immediately. It created a very chilled rock atmosphere that filled up the entire room and as more and more people came through the door, they were all instantly vibing to the wicked noise of The Holy Soul.
Mudhoney are just as good as they’ve ever been. As the band picked up their instruments and started to play, there was a sea of flannel shirts swaying from side to side and head banging as the guitar notes echoed out and the crashes came down on the snare drum. The room at this point was packed full of people, looking very happy to be there as they were serenaded with fuzz pedals, and potent vocals. It was fun to see the band back in Australia, carving up the stage with their fantastic tracks that make you want to head bang so hard and jump around until you feel dizzy.
The band are still on tour so check them out if you get the chance!
