Mini Q&A With Sydney Band Edgecliff Ahead Of Their Forthcoming EP “Uproar”

Sydney’s Edgecliff are getting ready to drop their debut EP “Uproar” this Friday 2nd of December which will feature a decent amount of fantastic tracks that you won’t wanna miss. We got to do a little Q&A with the band, which you can read below.

Stream Edgecliff’s new track “Running On Empty” now, and check out the new EP, out this Friday!

How did the band come together and where did the band name come from?

We all went to high school together and 3 of us started to play music together for fun. Shortly after two of the other lads ended up jumping in with us and we’ve been together for 4 to 5 years now and all the way through year 11 and 12 at high school!

We always struggled with finding a band name that would stick. We played a few gigs under some shocking names, we won’t go down that path though! Edgecliffe Boulevard up in Collaroy has a view that stretches up the Northern Beaches. We would hang out up there all the time before and after jamming, so when it hit us we instantly loved it.

What was the inspiration behind your new track “Running On Empty”, and how did you come up with the sound for the track?

We were asked to write a track to honor the Running On Empty festival in Cobar. We wanted to come up with a classic Australian rock song with that old school pub rock feeling to it. Playing around with the timing and tempo and locking in something that would take you back to The Angels/ AC/DC sound was our goal. It all stemmed off the beginning riff that kicks off the song!

What's your favorite track on your upcoming EP Uproar and why?

Broken is a track we are all so proud of. It’s a slow rock ballad with really heartfelt lyrics. It is quite a standout track in the EP but also fits so perfectly with the whole theme of the EP (relating to all these different human emotions). We are really keen to hear everyone’s reaction to this track!

What bands are inspiring you at the moment?

We have been listening to a lot of AC/DC, Australian Crawl, Wolfmother and Foo Fighters at the moment. To be honest these are some of our favourite bands and we are always listening to them. We are always very inspired with these bands.

What was the creative process like when creating the EP?

It was really cool for us to see how we work creatively and finding what clicks best for us. Some of these songs were started a couple years ago and were finished in the studio. Some of them were basically done in a couple jam sessions. Having never really done anything like this before, we were still figuring out what works best. Chipping away at writing these songs after work was how most of the songs were completed. Sometimes it just naturally came to us and other times we had to push ourselves and really get these songs the way we wanted them to be.

Tell us a fun/interesting fact about the band.

Our rhythm guitarist and keyboardist are actually cousins. Small small world.

Where do you see Edgecliff in the next 5 years?

We see ourselves doing the same thing. Playing and writing music. Hopefully in 5 years time we have plenty more listeners and opportunities to play in front of heaps more people! That’s all we want to do!
