THE GREAT EMU WAR CASUALTIES RELEASE NEW SINGLE ‘I JUST KNEW HER AS MA’
Melbourne-based indie-rock band The Great Emu War Casualties have just revealed their radiant new single 'I Just Knew Her As Ma' – produced by the band themselves and mixed by Brad Jackson. 'I Just Knew Her As Ma' commences with an entrancing call-and-response between the bass and spirited lead guitar riffs, intertwining seamlessly with vintage synth arpeggios. Fronted by the enigmatic Joe Jackson, the chromatic chorus melody weaves a charming synergy to the instruments, that descends and rises following the vocal contour. A brief half-time change shifts momentarily in the final chorus, before effortlessly guiding the return of the vibrant rhythm section that crescendos in its finale.
The Great Emu War Casualties talk about the inspiration behind 'I Just Knew Her As Ma':
"'I Just Knew Her As Ma' is a pessimistic self-examination and cynical self-portrait in song form, and an acknowledgement that I need to visit my Mum once in a while."
Previous releases have seen extensive support from triple j, triple j Unearthed, 2SER, 3RRR, 4ZZZ, Radio Adelaide and Gove FM. The band have also seen love in the blogosphere from The Guardian, Pilerats, The AU Review, Backseat Mafia Downunder and Good Call Live, along with their previous music video being added to rotation on MTV Upload.
