Tassie Trio Verticoli Release Sombre New Single “Sailor”
Hobart’s alt-rock trio Verticoli are back with a brand new track titled “Sailor” and it is an absolute treat from the very beginning, featuring an incredible stack of elements that form a gripping track. Having won the Party In The Paddock Triple J Unearthed Comp in the past and also having supported DZ Deathrays, and British India, the emerging band are quickly becoming something everyone is talking about with their talent and great live performances. Vocalist Sam Hunn explains -
"Lyrically the song is about failure being in the eye of the beholder. It was inspired by learning about the difficulties someone close to me had experienced in their younger years, which wasn't kept secret per se, but certainly wasn't readily shared. Knowing this made me feel less alone and self-critical, and I started thinking, 'God, I wish I'd known this earlier!'."
The sounds of the guitars straight away hit a chord on the inside with it’s sombre intro which is then followed up by captivating vocals that become wrapped with the haunting backing vocals, creating a melancholy atmosphere that gives the song much more depth and tone. Instrumentally, this track's gloomy soundscapes have a way of hitting deep while the lyrics and vocal melody come over this tone to make it more inviting to the listener. The track runs for around three minutes and frankly, it’s not enough - I wanted more! A music video was also dropped to accompany “Sailor” which is completely scenic and goes incredibly well with not only the track itself but the overall tone. “Sailor” is a fantastic track from start to finish. It’s ability to make you feel things with the gloomy instrumentals and strong lyrics is by far what makes this band great at what they do. We cannot wait to see what they do next.
Verticoli will be playing shows in Melbourne, Hobart, and Launceston. Everything is linked below!
