Rock & Roll Band Humdinger Break Out On The Scene With Self-Titled EP
Humdinger is an up and coming, high energy, pure rock and roll band based down in Canberra who have recently delivered their self-titled, debut EP that features five very impressive tracks along with a solid cover of the classic tune Johnny B. Goode that presents nothing but badass rock and roll sounds to your ears. The band consist of five members who are: Samuel Carl (vocals/guitar), Ansel Luk (keys), Dom Gorman (bass), Liam Johnson (drums), and lastly Lucius Culliton (percussion) - originally the EP was recorded by three of the members, with the extra two being added to complete the line-up and add extra energy to their live performances as each member bring their skill sets together and mesh very well to create some of the best rock sounds to come out of 2022. Jam packed full of fresh guitar riffs, solid bass lines, sensational drum beats, and pure rock vocals - you don’t want to sleep on this band as they are bringing a lot of heat to the music scene.
“If This Is Love” kicks off the EP and straight away from the first strum of the guitar, you know you are in for something good. The guitar chords fluently blend completely with the undertones of the rhythm, while the vocals sing some of my favourite lyrics on the whole EP “If this is love then I’d rather be lonely”. On top of this energetic rock sound, a killer guitar solo sweeps in towards the end which completes the track and makes for a perfect start for the fifteen minute long EP. Running into the next track “What’s The Use In Romance?” which straight away has heavy 60’s rock and roll vibes mixed in with the bands unique sound. The backing vocals and bass line take charge and are a huge highlight throughout the song, really adding to that 60’s sound that quickly becomes a favourite of mine. “Troublemaker” starts with an insanely catchy guitar riff that takes hold of you before the drums crash in hard with the underlying bass line that helps create a really solid soundscape for the vocals to come in. A tune so addictive that the lyrics will become embedded in your head from the first listen while it features a strong guitar solo that could easily melt your face off.
Leading head first into an absolute stellar cover of the classic track “Johnny B. Goode”, instantly giving the EP more of that old rock vibe that the band have continuously done throughout. Humdinger does what they know best and adds their unique flair while also holding onto that great classic rock sound. “Fun” is exactly as titled - kicking off with a fun surf-rock riff while the drums hit hard and fast before the vocals really shine over the top of the blissfully groovy melody. A bloody fantastic way to end the EP and the perfect way to leave the songs on your mind - ending with an incredible melody that will become glued to your brain. You truly can’t do better than this when it comes to a debut EP and Humdinger has easily and successfully achieved that, defining their unique sound in every one of the tracks while creating catchy hooks, and of course adding the sick guitar solos. It’s hard to believe that the band are only just up and coming as it sounds like they’ve been kicking ass in the music scene for years.
