Newcastle’s Vilify Unleash New Single “Odyssey”
“Odyssey” is the huge new track from Newcastle based alt-metal band Vilify which is dripping with intensity, angst, and vulnerability that totally and utterly takes control of the listener with a rush of emotion. Following up from previous releases “Veils Of Grey”, and “Futility”: “Odyssey” is also not afraid to take that next step with its vulnerability and issues that hit close to home.
“Our song 'Odyssey' is based largely around Amy's feeling of loss, anger, and confusion at losing her father quite early in her childhood,” the band explains. “The song raises issues around wondering if her father would be proud of the person she has become and how he would have shaped her life if he was still alive. A central theme is questioning why God (if there is a God...) took such a loving and caring man. If a God took him, then he must hate everybody else and not care or condone justice in any way.” - the band explains.
Distinct, and piercing vocals from vocalist Amy Macintosh create this striking sound that packs a punch full of heavy emotion. Amy brings so much power and mastery to her lyrics and vocals that viciously sinks its teeth into you, leaving a mark you won't forget. The band was built with four extremely talented musicians who have come together and made an incredible impact on the metal/hardcore scene with their way of building belting tunes with hard hitting instruments, and mosh worthy elements that hold strong meaning with the fiery lyrics. The accompanying video for “Odyssey” was shot, directed, and edited by Amy Macintosh herself, showcasing that she is someone who has many talents, with its simple yet visual shots that depicts a feeling of grief which goes hand in hand with the track itself.
Vilify will be taking this new track to AM/PM Emo Night in Tamworth on September 17th, so if you’re around that area - definitely go and support the band as they are bound to put on one hell of a show.
