Krononaut Releases Debut Instrumental EP “Trial By Fire”

Jaz Doust is a Sydney musician who is known for his outstanding work on guitars in Heavy Rock band Wicked Envy. If you didn’t know, he also spends a lot of time writing some really great heavy metal instrumental music for his solo project Krononaut. Starting the solo project back in 2020, Doust has released a handful of amazing instrumentals that are heavily influenced by the 1980’s heavy metal scene which you can hear straight away when listening to any track in the artist’s discography.

This month Krononaut released his first instrumental EP titled “Trial By Fire” that is truly bound to melt your face off, with a steady paced rhythm, and sick as fuck guitar riffs that we know you’re just gonna love.
Starting off the EP strong with first track “Anomaly”, solely driven by the heavy crashes of cymbals underneath a melodic guitar riff that honestly sounds like the opening theme of the coolest 80’s horror movie ever. Something that this artist does so well with his instrumentals is he really takes a sound and makes it into something very emotive, something you can really feel in your bones, that also really tells a story and that's what I love about “Anomaly” - it gives off this mysterious spooky vibe that explores a story through it’s sound.

Next up is none other than title track “Trial By Fire” which is filled with nothing but badass guitar riffs, licks, and vibrant solos that just make you want to head bang along instantly.
“The Long Way Home” starts off as a slower paced track but quicks brings forward a lot of power in the guitar and has some of the coolest solos I’ve heard in a while. This is all held together by a solid rhythm section and a heavy driven bass line that captures the essence of 80’s metal music so well.
The last track on the EP is “Dark Matter” and probably one of my favourites for the pure fact of it’s melodic goodness, and they way it closes out the EP perfectly with it’s strong emotive sounds and slower paced antics - like the ending of a perfectly good 80’s movie and I’m living for it.

The only problem I have with this EP is that four tracks simply isn’t enough, we want more of this great, 80’s soundscape -esque sound. Jaz proves time and time again what an incredible songwriter, guitarist, and artist he is and this is the perfect EP to showcase that to anyone.
If you love 80’s heavy metal music then you will love Krononaut!
