HACHIKU DROPS NEW SINGLE ‘TIME WASTED WORRYING’ ALONG WITH ACCOMPANYING VIDEO

Naarm/Melbourne-via-Germany-via-Detroit indie rock/alt-pop outfit HACHIKU - the music project from Anika Ostendorf (she/her) - today returns with the new single + video ‘Time Wasted Worrying’, their first single since 2021’s Jen Cloher-collaboration ‘Fairytale in the Supermarket’ and first standalone release since their critically-acclaimed debut album I’ll Probably Be Asleep (2020).

Opening with innocent bubble samples, ‘Time Wasted Worrying’ drips with the sound of summer: synths, upbeat guitars and driving percussion. It's a special moment as all Hachiku band members unite for the first time on a track, with Jessie Warren and Georgia Smith joining on cheerful harmonies. “I like to envision them as a choir of reassuring angels behind me,” Anika Ostendorf says. The uplifting music is masterfully contrasted with its content, on which Ostendorf embarks on a journey of self-discovery and resilience trying to navigate from all-consuming worry towards self-compassion and kindness. Hachiku shares, “When I was around five, my grandmother told me: "If you don’t have a thought in your mind, you’ll die." I internalised this, fearing sudden death, and don’t think I have stopped thinking since. I have now learned the value of a calm and quiet mind and recognised that I indeed spend a lot of wasted time worrying. This song is like a little reminder to myself to take care of myself, be kind and self-compassionate and take it easy! And perhaps my grandmother is watching from above, her mind at ease, knowing that things unfold as they should, whether we worry or not.”
