alt-J - 26th April 2023 - Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
Royel Otis are an indie duo from Sydney that are making waves at the moment - whether it's playing festivals, touring, or releasing great music, it’s safe to say that huge things are happening for the band which is fantastic to see.
There’s no doubt that they were the perfect act to open up for UK indie rock favourites alt-J on their The Dream tour throughout Aus.
Under the low blue lights, the band stepped out onto the stage and played for a room of screaming people, flowing through their setlist effortlessly with their indie sound echoing out and adding to the already superb atmosphere. It was good to see a lot of people there early to catch Royel Otis - it just proves that they are getting more and more noticed, and gaining the love they deserve.
Walking out into the darkness of a completely pitch black stage were alt-J before kicking off their set under dim spotlights that were only just highlighting the members which created a very interesting and mysterious feel to their set and really added to the sweet sounds of their indie tracks that drove out into the crowd and had fans singing their lungs out. The show was the bands 2nd in Sydney and completely sold out which you could tell by looking at the sea of hundreds moving in the dark to their favourite songs.
Playing through some of their hits that are loved by all while also playing songs from their most recent album “The Dream”, everyone was loving it, either singing along, dancing, or just having the biggest smiles on their faces.
The atmosphere the whole night was sublime as the Hordern Pavilion became the home to the huge sounds of indie goodness for the night - it was memorable to say the least.
You can catch Alt-J at the remaining Groovin The Moo dates as well as their headlining shows in Melbourne and Perth.
