INTERVIEW WITH ALT-ROCK BAND EVERGREENER
Evergreener is an alternative-rock band hailing from the sweet city of Melbourne and known for their fantastic alt-rock sound that is infused with 90’s punk rock elements which give their tracks that extra unique twist. Recently this year, the guys have released a stellar single titled “Everything In Between’ which is perfect from start to finish and had us weak at the knees since first listening. It’s an easily repeated track that is the perfect addition to your favourites playlist with its catchy soundscape and impressive vocals. Congrats on the release of your new single “Everything In Between” - it truly is a really great listen and we have been absolutely loving it. Can you tell us a little bit about the track, what it means to you, and what the creative process was like?
Thank you so much! We really appreciate the kind words and the reception we’ve received so far for ‘Everything In Between’. The track is a more heartfelt and emotional song from the point of view of someone who has been betrayed from a break-up. Matt Stepic (Vocals, Guitar) wrote the song a while back in 2021 and it started as a simple guitar riff that slowly but surely built into a very sonically dense song.
What is your favourite thing about playing a live show, and are you excited to play the new track in a live setting?
We are super keen to play some more shows soon. We love playing live together! We have great band chemistry and love the energy we all individually bring to the stage. We’re super excited to play it live as we were able to create a great soundscape with this song live, utilizing our instruments as layers.
You’ve played shows alongside bands like Bragging Rights, What was that like for you?
We had such a good time playing that show! It was awesome to see a great international band take the stage and really connect with everyone in that room. Hopefully they come back soon.
What does a day in your life look like for you guys on the day of a show? Are you mostly excited or nervous? Do you have any pre-show rituals?
We all work full-time jobs so we typically would be working the whole day and use the show as an outlet or escape from the corporate world. We learned from Steve Cannatelli to always get into a groove of playing a few songs unplugged as a band to get the vibe going and energy high.
Are there any local bands that you are really digging at the moment?
Definitely check out LATE 90s (WA), Commoner, Cordiform, Weighbridge and Belle Haven. They all have new stuff out and it slaps!
Do you have any hobbies outside of music and if so, how do you find the time to fit everything into your routine?
We all have separate hobbies outside of the band. Matt likes to go to the gym a lot, read an do film photography. Corey enjoys film photography as well and surfing. Dale is super into his motorcycle and shooting and Jason likes playing basketball. We all love gaming too and frequently game together. We find that the band is our escape from everything but our hobbies are our escape from the band and give us a chance to be individual outside of our friendship together.
What’s next this year for Evergreener?
We have plenty in store to show and release this year! You’ll all see a few more new singles and music videos, remixes of songs, acoustic versions of songs, live shows and maybe even an unplugged session if you’re all lucky ;)
